LOL
I am still running W7U, thank you very much!
Guess W10 was not the end of all Os's.

I use the old health check method: if it runs don't touch it!.  Smile

Don't worry. MS will let you know when it will become available with plenty of upgrade offers.
If you really have to see how it works you can get the first preview today at Windows Insiders. Build 22000.51 (From Yahoo Finance 6.28.2021)

There are not a lot of details yet officially available, but from what I have read, I agree with Steve:

Gamers Nexus | Evils of Windows 11, RTX 3060 Supply Boost, WD Drives Deleting Files

* He does give a simple/basic explanation of a TPM. The concept is similar to Google's Titan M and Apple's Secure Enclave.

I'll probably stay away from Windows 11 as long as feasibly possible.

Win 10 will be supported until 2025. I've had it since Jan. 2018, and it's updated itself automatically. I've had no issues at all. I know that's not been the case with every update for everyone, but with my set-up there have been no glitches.

I use my computer almost exclusively for gaming and prowling the web, so I didn't have much of a learning curve to adapt from Win 7. I don't have TPM, and don't know where/how to get it, so I won't be upgrading.

I have a DS desktop that is one year old. It has an i7-9700K and an ASUS ROG Strix Z390-H Gaming motherboard.

The (in)famous health check told me my computer would not run Windows 11. However the motherboard says that it has a TPM slot and Intel says the i7-9700K is appropriate for Windows 11.

So will this require a BIOS configuration change or what will likely occur?

Hi,

We are still evaluating alongside Microsoft on compatibility and requirements with beta testing.

Most modern motherboards have TPM equivalent features that you can enable in the bios that satisfy Windows 11 requirements.

I have read that if your system is older than 2017 you are out of luck as to TPM. Any veracity to that?

Confused

Yes, somewhat. TPM 2.0 began to be standardized on motherboards sometime in the middle of 2016 (July 18 apparently), so it is a maybe thing with 2016 boards. It is standard from 2017 onward, but is not always enabled in the BIOS. I have a board from late 2017, but I'm not interested in WIN 11 at this point, so I haven't checked my BIOS. It's not enabled if I do have it because I checked that.

Hardware chips are available to install for those mobos that don't have it.

I'm not an early adopter of anything, so I will most likely not upgrade to Win 11 until it comes with my next system from DS!

Do you by chance have an update here and/or steps on we can enable the TPM if we want to proceed with downloading Windows 11?

Also, be careful about turning on the new security features in Windows 11. These will be off by default if you're upgrading from Windows 10. Turning them on will impact your performance.

Mine says I need to change my secure boot. I have a lynx Level 2

To change these settings, you will need to switch the PC boot mode from one enabled as “Legacy” BIOS (also known as “CSM” Mode) to UEFI/BIOS (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface). In some cases, there are options to enable both UEFI and Legacy/CSM. If so, you will need to choose for UEFI to be the first or only option. If you are unsure how to make any necessary changes to enable the UEFI/BIOS, we recommend that you check your PC manufacturer’s support information on their website. Here are a few links to information from some PC manufacturers to help get you started:

Can I change this in my bios or can not

And I also need TMP 2.0

Damn Win11

Well, decided to try and do the Windows 11 update. First roadblock… TPM 2.0 not installed or activated. So started study the problem. First, determined that two updates to my Prime Z390-P mother board needed to be updated with a new ME app and then a new bios. Did the two updates via the web directly to mother board. Still could not activate or even find reference to TPM 2.0. Since this is a bios related issue, realized that I was not gaining access to the level of bios I needed to be at. Reason.   No bios administrators pass word had been set. Did that and now was able to access the trusted what ever and started it up. Saved it in bios. Restarted. And was able to get a clean test for Windows 11. Down loaded same and it failed at the end with a error 0x8007007f or something like that. So no dice until I figure this part out….

Ahh, sorry to hear you got rid of your W7U. I'm keeping my pc going with it until it really cannot keep up. Right now maxing all in 2K and doing great with a new updated card. Not even a hiccup.

Have the W10 Pro version and it is ok but very limited in what it allows you to do if you oc and play.

When configuring a custom pc build from the mid to top tier range, digital storm is making the factory OS Windows 11. Hopefully it doesn’t come with too much bloatware. ✌️

I've been around here a few minutes and I can tell you that I've never seen, or heard of, any bloatware on the DS systems. They are shipped as clean as if you built it yourself.

That's one reason you'll never find a better place to get a great computer.

I'll give it a year on any systems I depend on, maybe longer depending on software. I have a testbed for early adoption, which is what I consider any OS with less than a year of real world use and exposure. I never really adopted 8 or 8.1, myself, because I didn't like it on my testbeds. Not to say that 11 is another 8, just that I'll have to see. I usually participate in the Microsoft early review and preview but haven't had time the last couple years.
